Chrome extension for feed, special chars, and command syntax

Post19 December 2011, 20:17

I've made a Google Chrome extension (called "Calculator Stuff," though I'm definitely looking for better options) that keeps track of activity on calculator forums, somewhat like those email notifier extensions that keep track of new emails. It currently supports Omnimaga, Cemetech, and Revsoft, fetching up to 25 posts every minute or more.

It has a few other options: "New posts" fetches the latest posts made on each board, while "New topics" fetches the latest topics created; "Show only news" displays posts and topics only in the appropriate news section; and it allows you to set your own display name, so it can ignore all posts made under that name.

EDIT: It now has a lot of other stuff too, not just feeds!

One thing it adds is context-menu items for special characters. Right-click in any text box to quickly insert a character like theta or the store symbol.

It also adds a custom address-bar function for instant information on TI-BASIC commands—just type "basic" in the URL bar, press Tab, and start typing a command name, and it'll show you syntax and description for that command!

Download version 1.4

Love it already!

If you do
NewTopics, Fetch 20, Every 15 min
Do you see a topic called "forum add-ons" or "Wrong subject title" ? Those should be secret :P but I can see them there...

I don't see them. You do because you're logged in, and you're an admin :) phpBB3 is pretty good about putting relevant topics in feeds.

Wow, Monopoly! I don't use Chrome, but it sounds interesting (though i pretty much have the RevSoft page open all day anyway, so i guess a "feed" isn't really necessary ;))

I just noticed that the 60-char limit on post title length cut off the title on replies in this thread lol

I'm planning to make this more than just a feed. Chrome extensions can manipulate the omnibar, so I want to make some custom tab-functions that do something useful. Anybody have ideas?

Another thing I could do is add some context-menu items, like one to run Z80 files through an assembler or an image through SourceCoder.

Chrome's pretty big anyway, and this extension is way smaller than most. A couple extra kilobytes wouldn't matter too much outside of a TI-83 Plus :D

Two completely new features: a context-menu submenu for inserting special characters like theta or the store symbol, and an address-bar function for TI-BASIC command information. To use the second feature, type "basic" into your address bar, press Tab, and start typing a command!

Thanks :D

I updated it again with several bugfixes and a new icon. (First full image logo I've ever made!)

They had shadow at first, but then I resized a couple times and it got lost :/ Thanks for the feedback.
