Hope your battle with your text routines goes well, because that font looks great.

Glad you're still working on your Monopoly game!

Thanks, Deep Thought! I've got it pretty much working, just need to finetune it some and fix the bugs i've created. Maybe not quite in that order, though.

Tonight i just got my Linux z80 environment setup all ready, and it's looking pretty... well... pretty. Burntfuse's z80asmide/WabbitCode (has anyone heard from Burntfuse recently?) with TilEm (finally got everything compiled and running). I updated to Spasm2, fixed a couple filenaming glitches between Linux and that other OS, and finally got Monopoly to compile and run under TilEm (after about 30 minutes trying to figure out what the key configuration was, still not too sure about that). Woohoo! Now to see about a 68k programming environment...

I have the following linux setup:
  • KolourPaint for all graphics
  • Kate text editor with custom syntax highlighting file and keyboard shortcuts to compile
  • Spasm2
  • Shell scripts for heavy auto inclusion of specific folders (with content that changes often)
  • Wine + some old WabbitEmu

Did a little work tonight on Monopoly, got the menu system a little more stable, though i think i'm writing to a few places where i shouldn't be, as when i scroll to the bottom it crashes upon exiting. Previously, the menu went almost too fast. Now that i have to redraw the text every frame it's really slow, which means i will probably need to relook at the graphical portion of it to see if i can speed it up any :(

Redrawing text every frame sounds very expensive in terms of cpu load.

Yeah, i thought it could keep up would be fast enough since there's nothing else really going on then, but i think i'm going to have to relook my method. The problem is that you can scroll up and down, so i can't just forget about parts that scroll offscreen. I've essentially got two buffers set up, a graphbuffer and a buffer for the text (which gets copied to the gbuf), i think i'll try drawing an extra row in the textbuffer and scrolling that way, then when i need to scroll down just ldir the buffer up and fill in the gap (and do the opposite when scrolling up).

So.... got the menus scrolling nicely for any-size menus and was making a nice little screenshot of it when i found out that at some point my buying routine had gotten broken. I'll probably look into that tomorrow, it's late...

Had a pretty major move (i'm writing you all from China) so it's been a bit quiet on the Monopoly front, we'll see if i ever actually finish an asm game (it'd be a shame not to finish this one). Seems things have quieted down a bit again :/

Moved to China...that's awesome. You move for a job or just because?

Some news about Monopoly ? :)

What's exactly your todo list, I have the feeling your project is basically working fine, isn't it?

Honestly i can't remember, i've got to finish up the properties (houses/hotels) and update the property data, i thought i was going to be able to figure out some sort of formula but i think it'll just be easier and smaller to add in every single individual rent price. I've also got to add in a way to lose, but really until mortgaging and everything else is taken care of i don't think it's worth it. Seeing noelthebest playing around with it and all the cool stuff you've been doing lately makes me want to squeeze some time in, in addition to working on what we talked about over at yAronet. I can't remember if i left Monopoly in working condition or not, i sure hope so as i don't feel like searching out bugs.

If anyone's interested in checking the source out, hit up launchpad: https://launchpad.net/z80monopoly. My last commit says:
"New menu system stable, finished support for UK version."
I'm hoping that's true! Anyways, check it out under the code tab :)
