Remember my Contra project? I'm starting to work on it again!

For those of you who don't know about it, it's a close port of the original NES game in Axe, keeping graphics and gameplay as close to the original as possible. Most of my work on it was done between November of 2010, when I started the project, and last April, when I dropped it for a bit to work on stuff for school and the various contests that took place over the summer and fall. I picked it up again in December because I had so many other things to do that I got bored.

Things I've put in the newest update (since last May, basically):
  • Redesigned sprites, upped to three grays (I've decided not to skimp on the graphics)
  • Engines for enemies and enemy bullets combined (it actually makes sense this way for technical reasons)
  • Recoded scrolling, now smooth (one pixel at a time instead of two)
  • Made enemies move and jump around
  • Swimming

Very cool! The homescreen should scroll a bit faster.

Like in the original game, you can just press ENTER (Start) to skip the title screen.

And here's a screenshot of more updates, with completely smooth scrolling and more consistent speed:

Looking good, stuff seems to be coming along nicely. The guy is still kinda tough to see but the graphics for everything look better.
